Just A Taste
A taste. Just a taste.
I step up to the free throw line. My sides are aching and my knees are shaking. I lick my lips in anticipation.
Just one taste.
“Two shots!”
The referee bounce passes me the ball and I set myself up for the shot. My hands are slick with sweat as I toss it up.
*Clank*
Shit. I missed”
The crowd is screaming. It’s such a close game, We’re up by three with enough time for the other team to tie it up. My teammates assure me I’ll make the next shot. I clear my head and prepare. The ref passes me the ball and tells me I have one shot left. I roll the ball in my hands and breath.
Just a taste.
I’ve never been in this position before. Never have I held the game winning shot in my hands. I can end this game right here. Its all on me. I roll the ball in my hands again.

“Of glory” I whisper as it leaves my hands.
God answered back with a swish. We won. Our fans and our team are screaming with joy. The team rushes to the team room and Coach tells me I made the game what it was. Chanel tells me she’s proud and kisses my cheek.
“All I wanted was a taste of glory.” I say.
